Towards a Gift Economy

According to the Motion Picture Association of America, movies are not to be shared. You pay up front, and if the product sucks you’re outta luck. In my country, one corporation has a virtual monopoly on theatrical distribution. They set the price, and it’s not cheap.

They believe that if people were to start sharing freely, no one would contribute to the creators. They believe that viewers will only pay if they’re being forced to do so. We’d like to challenge that concept.

We want to busk our movies on the internet. If you like what we’re up to, toss us a dime. No donation is too small.

At this point we should take a moment to thank WordPress. WordPress doesn’t charge us for this blog. And we’d like to thank Blip TV. Blip TV supports copyleft film making. Blip doesn’t charge us to host our scenes. For that we we are extraordinarily thankful.

At Blip, they generate revenue through advertising. Such a model valid, but we’re searching for an alternative. We believe that the collective price we pay, for the barrage of propaganda we’re being exposed to, is higher than most anyone is willing to admit. For the most part, advertising is a form of mind pollution, harmless in small doses, but damaging to the mental environment, once a certain threshold is crossed.

We’ve probably passed the saturation point.

We are here to create a new model.
